Theme: From Grain to Globe

We are delighted to invite you to join us for the 10th edition of the Gravel Bed Rivers (GBR) conference series, to be held in Aviemore, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. GBR10 will continue the tradition of bringing together an international and interdisciplinary community of researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers to advance understanding and stewardship of gravel-bed rivers across temporal and spatial scales.

About GBR10

Gravel-bed rivers are dynamic systems of global significance, underpinning ecological, geomorphological, and socio-economic functions across diverse landscapes. The GBR conference series has, for many years, served as a cornerstone for the exchange of cutting-edge research for these complex systems. GBR10 will mark a milestone in this legacy, addressing contemporary and emerging challenges in gravel bed river science.

Under the unifying theme "From Grain to Globe", GBR10 will explore the multi-scalar processes that govern sediment dynamics and river morphodynamics, from individual grains in motion to the global implications of environmental change. Participants will engage with pioneering research on sediment transport, river hydraulics, climate change impacts, modelling, biogeomorphology, restoration, and technological innovation.

In keeping with the tradition of the GBR series, keynote speakers have been invited to lead sessions across core themes. Their selection reflects our commitment to disciplinary breadth and to diversity in gender, race, career stage, and geography.

GBR10 is an inclusive forum open to all. In addition to keynote talks, all participants are invited to present their work in our dedicated poster sessions, designed to foster dialogue and exchange across the gravel-bed river community.
